Our Honest Review of Black Beach Suites in Vik, Iceland
Below, I’m sharing our honest experience staying at Black Beach Suites in Vík, Iceland, including what we loved, what we didn’t, and whether we’d stay again.

Pros of Staying at Black Beach Suites
When it comes to staying at the Black Beach Suites, there are so many things to love! Below are some of the pros of staying at this hotel in Vik, Iceland.
✅ Comfortable Studio Style Rooms
Black Beach Suites offers two different kinds of rooms: the standard studio and the deluxe king studio. Both rooms are very spacious, with the deluxe king studio being only slightly larger.
We stayed in the standard studio and loved it. The bed was very comfortable and they had blackout curtains to ensure a great night’s sleep. The studio has a modern décor style that is sleek and clean.
✅ The Incredible View
One of the best things about staying at the Black Beach Suites in Vik is the sweeping views you get from your room. The room has floor to ceiling windows that overlook the vast landscape with the sea in the distance – its a great view to wake up to.
I absolutely loved having my morning coffee here while enjoying these stunning views of Iceland.

✅ Great Amenities
The suites themselves have plenty of amenities including a TV with Netflix, a seating area, and a kitchen with appliances. We honestly just used the coffee maker, but you could cook a simple meal here.
There is also a bar in the Barn Hostel next door if you are looking to have a drink or snack. We didn’t make it over there for a drink, but it looked like a cool spot.
✅ Friendly Staff
Since the rooms are suite-style studios, you will actually check in at the Barn Hostel reception located next door. The staff is so friendly & welcoming, and willing to help with any questions you may have about the area or things to do.
We stayed here while on our honeymoon in Iceland and my husband lost his wedding ring. We called the hotel after we had left and they were so helpful in trying to look for it. 10/10 customer service.

Cons of Staying at the Black Beach Suites
I’ll be honest here – it was so hard to come up with any cons because I really enjoyed staying at the Black Beach Suites. The points below aren’t really even cons, they are just things to consider.
🚫 Need to Book this Hotel in Advance
Black Beach Suites is a popular hotel that only has a few apartment-style rooms. Due to the popularity, you’ll need to book this hotel well in advance.
Having to book in advance can definitely be a con if you prefer to be more flexible while taking a road trip through Iceland.
☑️ Important Tip: I highly recommend booking through Expedia or Booking.com and choosing the free cancellation option. Iceland’s weather can make you change plans (or you may just change plans) so I advise to always book free cancellation when possible.
🚫 Not Right in the Town of Vik
Honestly, the only other “con” that I can think of is that the hotel isn’t right in the town of Vik, which means you’ll need to do a short drive to reach restaurants or shops in Vik.
The drive to Vik takes about 10 minute drive, and the drive is a little bit steep going to Vik. We visited in June, so this drive was no problem at all. However if the weather was bad it could be difficult.
On the positive side, being outside the town means you’ll have undisturbed, beautiful views!

Cost of Staying at Black Beach Suites
The biggest con of staying at the Black Beach Suites? The price. Yes, it is expensive but at the same time I feel like everything is expensive in Iceland. This is especially true for the summer months.
However, while the hotel may seem expensive, if you compare it with other hotels in Vik, the price per night is very similar (only slightly higher if at all).
Plus for how nice the room is, it is 100% worth the cost to stay here in my opinion.
Low Season Rates: Starting around $250 USD per night
High Season Rates: Starting around $450 USD per night
💲 FYI: Like all hotels, nightly rates change based on a variety of factors (weekday vs weekend, seasonality, etc.) so you will want to check the rate for Black Beach Suites here.

FAQ About Black Beach Suites
Yes, I think Black Beach Suites is worth it, especially for couples or road-trippers who value scenery and extra space. We stayed here ourselves and loved the spacious studio, large windows, kitchenette, and peaceful setting. It was one of my favorite places we stayed during our South Iceland road trip.
Black Beach Suites is just outside the town of Vík, rather than directly in the village. I actually preferred this because the setting was quieter and much more scenic, but you will need to drive into Vík for most restaurants, groceries, and other services.
Yes. Black Beach Suites have kitchenettes, which is one reason I liked staying there during a road trip. Current suites include a refrigerator, stove, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and cooking utensils, although the exact setup can vary by room type. We honestly only used ours for coffee, but having the option to make a simple meal was convenient.
Yes, I would recommend having a car. Black Beach Suites is outside central Vík, so a rental car makes it much easier to reach restaurants, shops, Reynisfjara, Dyrhólaey, and the rest of the South Coast.
For most South Coast road trips, I would recommend one or two nights. One night works well as a stop before continuing east, while two nights gives you more time for Reynisfjara, Dyrhólaey, waterfalls, and other attractions near Vík.
